Board of Audit and Inspection Submits Report to National Assembly on 19 Trillion Won Government Fiscal Error Correction

A fiscal error exceeding 19 trillion won was discovered in the government's national settlement report, prompting the Board of Audit and Inspection (BAI) to submit a corrected report to the National Assembly on the 29th. The BAI's investigation confirmed errors totaling 19.2 trillion won across government assets, liabilities, and fiscal operation results.

Major errors included the failure to account for 9.0359 trillion won in uncollected national taxes by the National Tax Service as an asset, and the omission of the Seoul Metropolitan Area Express Railway infrastructure by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport from national property (valued at 2.7860 trillion won).

Following the corrections, national assets were reported at 3,593.4 trillion won, liabilities at 2,772 trillion won, and fiscal operation results at 64 trillion won. National property was recorded at 1,402.7 trillion won, goods at 17.3 trillion won, and total claims at 613.3 trillion won.

Separately, the performance report review identified four issues in the planning sector and ten in the reporting sector. Last year, the BAI conducted settlement audits and regular institutional audits on 143 organizations, and performance, special, and citizen proposal audits on 49 matters. A total of 1,383 illegal or improper acts were pointed out over the past year, with 575 cases requiring restitution judgments, corrective actions, disciplinary measures, or reprimands, and 798 cases involving recommendations or notifications for system improvements.
