US Proposes Tighter Rules of Origin for USMCA Auto Parts
The United States is set to propose measures to increase the proportion of U.S.-made parts for automobiles ahead of the revision of the North American Free Trade Agreement (USMCA).
This move aims to newly stipulate a minimum percentage for U.S.-made parts in addition to the existing agreement's North American content requirement (75%), and it is drawing significant attention from the relevant industry.
The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative began the first round of USMCA revision talks with Mexico on the 28th of this month, with Canada excluded from this bilateral negotiation.
