Geoje Police Station Relocation Emerges as Key Issue in Mayor Election
As opinions remain sharply divided over the relocation and reconstruction of the aging Geoje Police Station, focus is intensifying on how Geoje mayoral candidates in the June 3rd local elections plan to address the issue.
The Geoje Police Station building, located in Okpo-dong, was completed in 1986. At that time, it was built for a Class 3 region with approximately 200 officers, but it now serves a Class 1 region with over 400 staff. Since its completion in 1986, the current facility has suffered from severe deterioration. The building's limited space, relative to the increased staff and workload, has led to persistent issues with parking, convenience facilities for citizens, and overall capacity.
The relocation of the Geoje Police Station has been a long-standing topic of discussion within the local community. While some advocate for modernizing the facilities and strengthening local public security capabilities through new construction, others propose expanding or renovating the current building, citing the immense cost and financial burden of relocation.
Against this backdrop, candidates in the Geoje mayoral election have put forth different solutions.
