Lee Jae-myung Signals Crackdown on Real Estate Misconduct, 780 Reports Received
President Lee Jae-myung announced on June 1st that he would strictly handle illegal real estate speculation and tax evasion. He added that the country would move away from being a "republic of unearned real estate income."
The President made these remarks as he shared a media article on his social media service X (formerly Twitter) about the National Tax Service's reporting center, which is operating to eradicate real estate-related tax evasion.
The article included an analysis from the office of Rep. Cha Gyu-geun of the Rebuilding Korea Party, a member of the National Assembly's Strategy and Finance Committee, stating that the National Tax Service's real estate tax evasion reporting center received 780 tips in the five months since its launch in November of last year, with approximately 80% concentrated in the Seoul Metropolitan Area, including Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Incheon.
