Jang Dong-hyuk Appeals for Vote to Hold Lee Jae-myung Accountable
Jang Dong-hyuk, Standing Election Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, made a final push to win over voters in the Chungnam and Yeongnam regions, one day ahead of the June 3 local elections. Chairman Jang emphasized the importance of voting at a 'Chungnam Final Rally' held in front of a department store in Cheonan's Dongnam-gu on the afternoon of the 2nd.
He said, 'If we vote incorrectly tomorrow, the top news headline on June 4 will be an article announcing that Lee Jae-myung's trial has been canceled.' He continued, 'If we are not angered by this and do not judge him with our votes, when will we ever use our precious votes?' Chairman Jang went on to criticize the Democratic Party's approach to state affairs. He stated, 'We have all fought hard against the insolence and arrogance of the Democratic Party. We must go to the polls tomorrow. If we do not act, no one will protect our freedom.'
This rally highlighted the People Power Party's perception that the June 3 local elections could be a critical juncture, extending beyond the selection of local government representatives to become a judgment on the administration's momentum and a determinant of the future political landscape. The People Power Party engaged in a full-scale effort until the final moments of the election, aiming to check the opposition party's grip on state affairs and encourage voter turnout.
The outcome of this local election could impact the momentum of state governance. A major defeat for the ruling party could potentially impede judicial proceedings or policy implementation, while a respectable showing would secure governing momentum and allow them to continue their term.
