Korean Manufacturing Embraces AI and Digital Twin Technology

Korean manufacturers are fully adopting simulation methods that combine artificial intelligence (AI) and 'digital twin' technology to replicate production processes virtually for testing. The goal is to produce products faster and more efficiently.

Academia and industry positively evaluate this technology as a key means to resolve bottlenecks in product design and prototype manufacturing stages. Choi Byung-ho, a research professor at Korea University's Human-Inspired AI Research Center, analyzed that AI can achieve optimal efficiency in terms of cost and quality by repeatedly learning and analyzing various scenarios in a virtual environment to identify potential risks beforehand.

As the technology is in its early stages of adoption, additional research and verification are needed to establish safeguards and ensure technological reliability to complement AI's inference capabilities. Significant time and cost are also expected to be incurred for the digitization of unstructured data required for AI training.
