Lee Jun-seok Cites Ex-President Yoon's 30-Year Sentence, Urges President Lee to Face Court Verdict
Lee Jun-seok, leader of the Reform Party, has urged President Lee Jae-myung to face judgment in court, recalling the 30-year prison sentence previously handed down to former President Yoon Suk-yeol. Representative Lee pointed out that the first-instance ruling against former President Yoon, who was sentenced to 30 years for alleged treason, was based on the claim that he 'incited North Korean provocation by flying drones to Pyongyang to create grounds for martial law.' Lee criticized the essence of the commander-in-chief's authority.
Lee Jun-seok, leader of the Reform Party, emphasized consistency in judgment by referencing the past sentence of former President Yoon Suk-yeol. He argued that President Lee Jae-myung, who faces allegations of 'sending money to the enemy,' must also have his charges clarified in court.
Representative Lee likened the current push by the ruling party to 'cancel prosecution' to a 'backdoor maneuver,' defining it as an overreach of authority and an act of treason. Lee warned President Lee Jae-myung, "If you run away from judgment through the cancellation of prosecution, the resistance you will face will be two or three times what you anticipate now." He strongly implied a lesson for the person holding the greatest power: power is temporary, but responsibility follows to the end.
