China Accelerates AI Innovation, Targets AI Superpower Status by 2030
China is rapidly expanding artificial intelligence (AI) technology beyond industrial sectors to general consumption areas, setting a goal to become a leading nation in AI by 2030. Eight ministries, including China's Ministry of Commerce, announced the 'AI+Consumption' policy, broadening the scope of AI application to smartphones, home appliances, tourism, logistics, elderly care, and humanoid robots. The Chinese government has presented a specific target to increase the penetration rate of agent AI in intelligent devices to over 70% by next year.
As part of these AI ecosystem expansion efforts, China plans to build a national AI computing network and data centers through an investment of 2 trillion yuan (approximately 450 trillion won) over the next five years. The scale of China's core AI industry is projected to expand to 12.6 trillion yuan (around 2,500 trillion won) by 2030.
To fully enter the race for AI leadership, China is hurrying to establish a China-led World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed his welcome for global participation to utilize AI for public good.
