PPP Busan City Council Speaker to Be Selected Through Primary

The People Power Party (PPP) has decided to select its candidate for the speaker of the 10th Busan City Council through an internal primary election. The PPP secured 37 out of the total 48 seats in the 10th Busan City Council.

On the morning of the 20th, PPP Busan chapter chairman and National Assembly member Jeong Dong-man met with three-term councilors Kang Moo-gil and Lee Jong-jin, who are considered frontrunners for the next council speaker position, at the PPP Busan chapter office. Jeong attempted to explore the possibility of a consensus nomination, but the clear differences in stances between the two councilors prevented an agreement.

Consequently, the PPP will finalize its speaker candidate through a primary election at a caucus of Busan City Councilors scheduled for the 23rd. The 10th Busan City Council will commence its term on July 1st, with the first session of its 337th extraordinary meeting set for July 6th to elect the presiding officers and standing committee chairmen for the first half of the term.
