Gyeonggi Education Office Launches Medical Expense Support for Students with Diabetes

The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education will begin supporting the purchase costs of medical supplies starting this year to protect the learning and health of students with Type 1 diabetes and alleviate the financial burden on parents. Type 1 diabetes is a condition where blood sugar control is difficult due to insufficient insulin secretion in the body, and it mainly appears in children and adolescents.

Through this project, students can receive up to 90% of the purchase costs for essential medical devices such as continuous glucose monitor sensors and insulin pump consumables, with a maximum support of 550,000 won per person.

However, duplicate support is restricted for individuals who are 100% covered by medical aid or who are receiving benefits from similar support projects in other local governments.

The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education plans to build a health safety net by creating on-campus medication spaces and conducting awareness improvement education, in addition to providing support for students with Type 1 diabetes to ensure stable school life and to reduce the economic and caregiving burden on families.
