Gyeonggi Province Opens Applications for 150 Rental Housing Units for Non-Homeowners

Gyeonggi Province is newly recruiting tenants for 150 rental housing units to help residents without homes achieve stable housing. This recruitment utilizes units that remained unfilled after an initial selection process, and eliminates income or asset limitations to provide opportunities to more residents.

This supply initiative focuses on enhancing accessibility to public rental housing for genuine demanders by repurposing previously uncontracted units. The application threshold has been lowered and application procedures partially improved to allow non-homeowning households facing high housing cost burdens to reside at relatively affordable rates.

The supply areas cover 20 cities and counties within the province, including Suwon, Goyang, Seongnam, Bucheon, Ansan, Siheung, Uijeongbu, Pyeongtaek, Paju, and Hwaseong, totaling 150 units. The eligibility criteria have been broadened compared to previous recruitments due to relaxed income requirements. This recruitment waives asset criteria. Second-priority applicants can have a monthly average income below 100% of the previous year's urban worker household income, and third-priority applicants can have an income below 150%. By expanding the income range, the possibility for non-homeowning residents needing public rental housing to apply has been increased.

To improve housing utilization, GH is expanding the number of reserve tenants recruited from three times the number of units to four times, and introducing a 'contract first, then verification' application method. This aims to accelerate the supply speed and quickly connect actual housing seekers with available units, preventing units from remaining vacant for extended periods.

Kim Tae-soo, Head of Gyeonggi Province's Housing Policy Division, stated, "This recruitment with eased eligibility criteria is a measure to provide public rental housing opportunities to more non-homeowning residents. We will continue to strive to expand public rental housing supply and ensure efficient operation for the housing stability of our residents.”
