49th Memorial for Lee Chae-won: Vow for Safer Society as Tragedy's Memory Lingers

A 49th memorial service was held on June 21 for the late Lee Chae-won, who tragically passed away on her way home in May. Family and acquaintances mourned Chae-won, vowing to create a safe society so that such a tragedy would never be repeated. Lee Chae-won met her untimely end while returning home after finishing her studies, and even a month after the incident, the grief of those left behind remains deep.

An honorary firefighter certificate was presented at the memorial service to honor Chae-won's noble dream. Attendees' eyes welled up with tears as they remembered Chae-won's life.

Voices were also raised calling for severe punishment for the perpetrator, Jang Yoon-gi. The government stated it would do its utmost to prevent future incidents by supplementing blind spots in the social safety net. The first trial for the perpetrator, Jang Yoon-gi, is scheduled for June 22.
