Yongin City Launches 'Zero Food Waste' Campaign for Private Cafeterias
Yongin Special City is expanding its 'From Today, Zero Food Waste' project to private group cafeterias to reduce food waste and protect the environment. This initiative aims to cut down on food waste and lower greenhouse gas emissions, with an investment of 20 million won from the Yongin City Environmental Preservation Fund.
Three private group cafeterias – Hyundai Green Food Soluem branch, MK Electronics, and Casthouse – have been selected and provided with a total of six food waste measurement devices. The 'From Today, Zero Food Waste' project operates by having cafeteria users measure their leftover food; if the amount is less than 60g, participants receive 100 won in carbon neutrality points.
This project is a follow-up to the 'Public-Private-Academic + One Team Carbon Neutrality Project Practice Agreement' signed in April last year. It was piloted in the city hall cafeteria starting in August last year, successfully reducing food waste by approximately 10%. Based on this success, the project's scope is being broadened to include private group cafeterias, aiming to foster a culture of carbon neutrality practice that involves citizens and businesses alike.
