New Ways to Tell Stories in the Age of AI
New ways to tell stories in the age of AI. A book has been released that proposes a new method for crafting stories by treating artificial intelligence (AI) not as a competitor in creation, but as a collaborator.
『Storytelling Reborn in the Age of AI』, written by director Kim Tae-won, who produced dramas among other works, presents concrete methodologies for how AI technology can be utilized in the creative process. The author emphasizes the importance of becoming familiar with AI, controlling it, and using it, rather than fearing it.
From the perspective of viewing AI as a co-creator, this book demonstrates the entire process from brainstorming to content completion using generative AIs like Claude and Gemini, with real-world examples, and details how to write prompts, revise outputs, and make judgments.
Specifically, it integrates the '4 Acts - 24 Blocks' structure from his previous work with AI, centering on the proposition 'Plot to AI, Hooks to Humans.' This approach assigns AI, which excels in logical structure, the role of plot design, while humans focus on the 'hooks' that move the reader's heart and the 'reason' for the story.
The book addresses AI ethics issues that creators grapple with, such as copyright concerns for AI-generated text and the scope of disclosure for parts that received assistance, proposing a creative ethic that acknowledges AI assistance as collaboration.
The author stresses that despite AI advancements, what moves people remains the essence of storytelling—deficiency, desire, empathy, truth—and AI is merely a tool to realize these. He asserts that the fundamental principles of human-AI collaboration will persist amidst technological change.
