Controversy Over Doctored G7 Dinner Photo Featuring President Yoon Suk-yeol's Face
A fake photo showing President Yoon Suk-yeol's face synthesized onto a picture taken with former US President Donald Trump at a Group of Seven (G7) summit dinner has been circulating online. While the camp of former representative Lee Jae-myung released a dinner photo with the former US president, it was confirmed that President Yoon's face had been synthesized onto it, with parts of the background also altered during the manipulation process.
The claim that the 'photo of President Yoon Suk-yeol and former President Trump taken together on April 30, 2023' was used as evidence for the composite photo is false. At the time, the US President was Joe Biden, not Trump. President Yoon made a state visit to the US on April 26, 2023, held summit talks with then-US President Joe Biden, and shared related posts.
An analysis by AFP found a 96.9% probability that the photo was AI-generated or deepfake content. The spread of such fake images has led to ongoing fact-checking efforts. The circulation of unverified composite photos and the spread of false information through social media and internet communities can undermine information credibility and cause social confusion. This incident has led to misunderstandings regarding international summit exchanges and highlighted the importance of fact-checking in the digital age.
