Supreme Court Rejects Former President Yoon Suk Yeol's Appeal, Affirming 7-Year Prison Sentence
The Supreme Court rejected former President Yoon Suk Yeol's appeal on the 9th, finalizing the original sentence of seven years in prison.
The Supreme Court's Third Division (Presiding Justice Lee Suk-young) upheld the lower court's ruling, which found Yoon guilty of obstructing the CIO's execution of an arrest warrant following the Dec. 3 emergency martial law and infringing on the deliberation rights of nine absent Cabinet members by summoning only a select few to maintain the appearance of a Cabinet meeting.
The Supreme Court reversed the first trial's not guilty verdict and found Yoon guilty of instructing that a video file (PG) containing false facts be distributed to foreign media. Guilt was confirmed on nine out of ten charges, including allegations of drafting and discarding a false post-martial law declaration.
