Police Reopen Investigation Into Ruling Party Scandal Involving Han Dong-hoon's Family
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Cyber Investigation Unit summoned and questioned officials from the People Power Party's Public Relations Department on the 12th. They verified specific facts regarding the operation of the member bulletin board system, account management, and the process of writing and managing posts. Based on the secured statements, they plan to launch a full-fledged fact-finding mission.
This investigation was initiated in November 2024 when a computer error on the party's member forum temporarily exposed the real names of posters. Allegations arose that posts defaming former President Yoon Suk Yeol and his wife were uploaded under the names of then-Representative Han Dong-hoon and his family. Although police began the investigation following a complaint by a civic group, there had been little progress beyond questioning the complainant and requesting the preservation of the forum server data.
Recently, People Power Party Leader Dong-hyuk Chang appeared on a YouTube broadcast on the 10th and revisited the allegations, citing criminal conduct as a reason for expelling Rep. Han Dong-hoon. As the police resume the investigation, the conflict between the two figures is deepening, and voices within the party calling for a clarification of the truth are growing louder.
