Cover-up of botched Jang Yun-gi investigation... Investigation team leader admits ordering deletion of cable tie video

The leader of the investigation team, arrested on charges of destroying key evidence in the Jang Yun-gi case, has admitted to instructing a subordinate police officer to delete video footage of a cable tie filmed inside the vehicle. Police Inspector Park stated that he issued the order because he feared facing disciplinary action for the botched investigation as he approached retirement.

The Police Special Investigation Unit announced that an analysis of Jang Yun-gi's spare mobile phone revealed circumstantial evidence that he knew the victim prior to the crime. Police believe the initial investigation team at the Gwangju Gwangsan Police Station was also aware of this circumstance through the forensic analysis of the mobile phone.

The Police Special Investigation Unit is currently investigating the circumstances and timing of Inspector Park's deletion instructions to his subordinates. Inspector Park is continuing his testimony while in custody.
