Sweltering Heat Continues in Daegu and Gyeongbuk on the 16th

The Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions continued to experience sweltering heat on the 16th, with highs fluctuating around 30 degrees Celsius starting in the morning and perceived temperatures exceeding 35 degrees. Amid tropical nights where temperatures fail to drop even at night, Daegu city is going all out to manage the health of vulnerable groups who struggle to use air conditioning.

At the Daegu Dongseong-ro Plaza, water mist is being sprayed from the ground to help cool the heat. Due to the humid weather preventing the urban heat from dissipating, citizens were seen wearing parasols or seeking shade.

The Daegu city government recently visited low-income residential areas (jjokbangchon) to check on the health conditions of residents and the actual operation status of cooling facilities.

The Korea Meteorological Administration forecasts rain for the Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions tomorrow. However, even after the rain passes, there is a possibility that sultry weather and tropical nights will continue as humidity rises.
