Bus Driver in His 40s Referred to Prosecution Over Philopon Use Allegations

The Ansan Danwon Police Station in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 30th that it had detained and referred a bus driver in his 40s, identified as Mr. A, to the prosecution on charges of operating a city bus while under the influence of narcotics (violations of the Narcotics Control Act and the Road Traffic Act). The police determined that Mr. A drove the city bus while the effects of Philopon use were persisting and added charges of drugged driving.

Investigations revealed that Mr. A purchased Philopon via social media more than 10 times from late May until recently and ingested the drugs inside his vehicle. On the 23rd, he was caught sleeping with his vehicle stopped in the middle of a road after driving approximately 13 km from Siheong, Gyeonggi Province, to Ansan while intoxicated.

During the drunk driving crackdown and vehicle search, police discovered drug paraphernalia, and a preliminary narcotics test on Mr. A came back positive for Philopon. The Ansan Danwon Police Station plans to refer Mr. A, a Chinese national, to the prosecution while in custody.
