Criticism Mounts Within Party as PPP Ethics Committee Pushes to Dismiss Member Over Leak
Amidst Yoon Min-woo, chairman of the People Power Party (PPP) Central Ethics Committee, announcing his intention to request the party leader to dismiss a committee member for leaking internal discussions, fellow Supreme Council members are countering that criticism should not be suppressed under the guise of confidentiality. In a statement released on July 30, 2026, Chairman Yoon stated that if violations of the confidentiality obligation regarding internal discussions recur, he would take strict measures, including requesting the dismissal of the relevant ethics committee member in accordance with regulations.
This move is interpreted as a response to Vice Chairman Woo Jong-hwan and others raising issues about the operation of meetings.
Meanwhile, at a Supreme Council meeting held on July 30, 2026, a motion to appoint two additional ethics committee members was discussed. Although Supreme Council member Yang Hyang-ja abstained and Youth Supreme Council member Woo Jae-jun opposed, the motion was passed with a majority vote, increasing the number of ethics committee members from five to seven.
