People Power Party Support at 21%... Drops 1 Percentage Point from Previous Survey
The People Power Party's approval rating stood at 21%, down 1 percentage point from the previous survey, according to the National Index Survey released on the 30th of last month. This survey was conducted amid a succession of adverse events for the ruling party, including a stock market crash, rising real estate prices, and the forced passage of a bill abolishing the prosecution's right to request supplementary investigations.
In detailed breakdowns by support base, the exodus of moderate voters was particularly pronounced. Support from moderates fell from 22% in the second week of June to 13%, while only 49% of respondents who identified as conservative supporters said they backed the PPP.
Amidst this situation, PPP Leader Kim Gi-hyeon is expected to unveil a party reform plan focused on realizing a member-centric party around Liberation Day next month.
