Russian Ballistic Missile Blitz... Ukrainian Air Defense 'Near Collapse'
Russian forces fired 27 ballistic missiles across Ukraine in the early hours of August 1 (local time), killing at least nine and injuring 30, but Ukraine managed to intercept only one due to a shortage of air defenses. The Russian Ministry of Defense claimed on the same day that Ukraine had launched 635 drones toward Russian territory, announcing that they had intercepted them all.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that "there is a severe shortage of interceptor missiles for Patriots, our main air defense system capable of countering advanced missiles, making it difficult to withstand Russia's offensive with current air defense capabilities."
Regarding the shortage of air defense weapons, former U.S. President Donald Trump mentioned last month that "allowing Ukraine to produce its own Patriot missiles is a possibility," but stated that "careful consideration is needed" regarding technology transfer.
