Special Prosecutor Nominees Sought for Ballot Shortage Probe: Six Publicly Recommended Committee Members Named

The ruling and opposition parties have finalized the six public recommendation committee members who will uncover the truth behind the ballot shortage in the June 3rd local elections, moving forward with preparations for a full-scale investigation. The public recommendation committee, responsible for vetting special prosecutor candidates, will be composed of six members, with three nominated by the Korean Bar Association and three by the Council of Legal Clinics.

The Democratic Party of Korea recommended lawyers Cho Du-hyun and Cho Ki-yeon, and Seogang University associate professor of political science and international relations Ha Sang-eung. The People Power Party recommended lawyers Kim Yong-kwan and Choi Chang-ho, and Korea University law professor Cha Jin-ah. Lawyer Kim Yong-kwan, among those recommended, is a former judge, and lawyer Choi Chang-ho is a former prosecutor, both with over 20 years of experience in the legal field. Professor Cha Jin-ah, an expert in constitutional law, is expected to enhance the committee's expertise.

The recommendation committee will select two individuals from this group and propose them to the President, who will ultimately appoint one special prosecutor.
