60s Man Saves Child From Lake, Donates Reward Money
Kim Gyeong-ho, a temporary worker for Uiwang City, has donated a portion of the reward money he received for rescuing a 19-month-old child from a lake to underprivileged children. On May 1st, around 7:10 PM, Kim was performing electrical panel inspection work at Baegun Lake in Uiwang City when he witnessed a child fall into the water. Despite experiencing leg cramps and swallowing water multiple times, he dived to the bottom of the 3-meter-deep lake and rescued the unconscious child approximately 15 minutes later.
For his heroic act, Kim was awarded the "Courageous Citizen Award" by the LG Welfare Foundation last month and received a reward. Ten days after the accident, the mother of the rescued child personally visited Kim to express her gratitude.
Kim, a resident of Cheonggye-dong in Uiwang City, stated that he decided to donate based on his own experiences of receiving help from others. He delivered a portion of the reward money to the Cheonggye-dong Community Center. The donated funds were distributed to three local families with underprivileged children. Kim expressed his wish for the children to grow up healthy, demonstrating his commitment to community outreach.
