88% of Americans Say 'Iran War Goals Not Met'

Nearly 9 in 10 Americans view the war with Iran as a failure, showing skeptical responses. A poll conducted last month by Marquette Law School among 1,076 adults found that 88% of respondents answered that the U.S. did not achieve its goals in the Iran war. This figure is 7 percentage points higher than in the April survey, marking a record high for negative assessments on whether goals were achieved.

Evaluations of the war's value and significance followed. 75% of respondents stated the war was not worth the cost, a slight increase in negative public opinion from April (72%). Conversely, the response that the war is the biggest concern decreased from 24% in April to 10% in July.

The survey was released as negotiations for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz gain momentum. The U.S. and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding in June with the goal of reopening the strait and commencing comprehensive negotiations, but hostilities resumed last month following Iran's attack on oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz.
