AI: Already a Part of Our Daily Lives

Artificial intelligence (AI) is now a reality. It has already deeply integrated into human daily life, and we are living in an era where we work, learn, and communicate with AI. According to Professor Shin Jae-han of the Department of Brain Education at Kookmin University of Brain Education, AI is being utilized across daily life, with students seeking its help for homework and professionals using it for report writing. The application of AI has already become commonplace in various fields such as healthcare, education, and arts and culture.

While AI is created by mimicking the principles of the human brain's neural networks, it differs distinctly from humans. Unlike AI, which learns from vast amounts of data, humans learn through life experiences, empathize with others, and contemplate the meaning and value of derived answers, as well as responsibility for the outcomes.

Neuroscience reveals through neuroplasticity that the human brain can change and grow throughout life. Consistent activities like reading, walking, playing musical instruments, and learning foreign languages activate brain cells, contributing to brain development and enhanced creativity. Specifically, training in understanding the emotions of others strengthens the brain circuits responsible for empathy.

In a real-world example, a middle school successfully fostered problem-solving skills in students through a project where they obtained ideas using AI and then modified them with teacher guidance to suit school realities. This case demonstrates that AI can serve as a companion for expanding thoughts, and qualities like empathy can be trained within relationships through conversation and cooperation.
