Russian Navy Installs Netting at Kamchatka Nuclear Submarine Base 7,000 km from Front Lines

It has been confirmed that the Russian Navy has recently installed physical nets and iron structures at a nuclear submarine base on the Kamchatka Peninsula, located 7,000 km from the front lines, to block low-cost drone attacks. According to reports on August 13 (local time) citing Spanish media La Razon and UK Ministry of Defense intelligence, Borei-class strategic nuclear submarines at the Rybachiy base in Kamchatka and Kilo-class submarines at the Novorossiysk base in the Black Sea were seen covered with anti-drone nets and iron structures on their upper bridges.

Image analysis from commercial satellite firm Vantor indicates that the Russian Navy has been deploying weather crane barges since May to install these defensive facilities in stages.

As multi-billion-won advanced nuclear submarines rely on stealth underwater by design, the massive hulls docked at the base are highly vulnerable targets for FPV suicide drones equipped with artificial intelligence (AI). Successful Ukrainian drone raids on Russian strategic bomber bases, such as the 'Operation Spider Web,' have created a serious sense of security crisis for the Russian military, prompting even strategic assets 7,000 km behind the front lines to rely on primitive physical barriers.
