Foreign Ministry on Trump's North Korea Gestures: 'Strengthening ROK-U.S. Coordination, Urging Resumption of Dialogue'
Amid U.S. President Donald Trump's peace gestures—signaling an intent to improve relations with North Korea and ordering a reduction in military exercises—the South Korean government announced plans to strengthen coordination with the U.S. to facilitate the resumption of dialogue.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Park Do-woon stated during a briefing that Seoul is "maintaining close communication and coordination regarding the overall North Korea policy, including efforts to resume dialogue," and expressed hope that President Trump's message will lead to meaningful talks between the North and the U.S.
National Security Office Director Wi Seong-lak also expressed expectations for the resumption of dialogue, while the presidential office stated that South Korea would serve as a "pacesetter" to fulfill necessary diplomatic roles should North-U.S. dialogue resume.
