Special Counsel Personnel Deployment Fails... National Assembly Committee's Ballot Recount Thwarted

The special counsel investigating the National Election Commission, aiming to clarify suspicions regarding the ballot shortage, had announced it would deploy forensic teams during a recount at the Jamsil Olympic Park counting station; however, a committee-led recount has effectively fallen through. This comes as differences among ruling party lawmakers on the special committee remain unresolved just four days before the committee's operational deadline on the 27th. To proceed with a recount, a special committee meeting would have been required by the 27th, at least three days in advance.

Opinions diverged among People Power Party (PPP) members of the special committee over whether to conduct the recount. The PPP argued for an extension of the committee’s duration, citing the need for preparation time for the recount, but the Democratic Party rebutted this, leaving the gap between the ruling and opposition parties unbridged.

In response, the Democratic Party held a press conference on the 27th and criticized the PPP, stating that they had thwarted the recount by blaming their failure to unify internal opinions.

The special committee failed to secure a practical schedule for the recount. The committee's activity period concludes on the 31st. Consequently, the possibility of a recount taking place before the deadline has effectively become uncertain.
