[Daily Market Insights] The Price of Growth: The Answer Lies in AI Semiconductor PEG Ratios

August 27, 2026—The Seoul stock market is showing a strong upward surge, touching the 6,900 line during the session. While the KOSPI surged 1.53% compared to the previous day, the 'AI Value Investment Portfolio,' centered around semiconductors and Big Tech stocks, recorded a staggering 43% return on initial capital, validating its growth potential. Despite expectations for a U.S. Fed rate cut and overheating investment sentiment regarding the AI supply chain, the strategy continues to show a steady upward trend while absorbing volatility.

Validation of 'Growth Value' Beyond the Overvaluation Debate

Examining the asset trends of this portfolio, we see it has recovered to the mid-$14,000 range after a temporary adjustment following profit-taking last week. Notably, it is not merely the fact that stock prices have risen, but that the portfolio is trending upward based on thorough valuation analysis.

Major holdings currently in the portfolio may appear somewhat burdensome when looking solely at valuation metrics. Nvidia's PER (Price-to-Earnings Ratio) is approximately 32.6 times, and AMD reaches a staggering 122.1 times. However, when applying the PEG ratio (Price-to-Earnings divided by growth rate), which considers growth potential, the interpretation changes completely. The PEG ratios for Nvidia, Broadcom (AVGO), and Micron (MU) are merely 0.59, 0.40, and 0.14, respectively. This suggests that current stock prices are ridiculously undervalued relative to corporate growth, or that growth has not yet been sufficiently rewarded.

In particular, Micron, recording a PEG of 0.14 amidst the strength of memory semiconductors, and the Semiconductor Leveraged ETF (SOXL) with a PEG of 0.58, demonstrate that despite the strategy's concentration on the specific 'AI Semiconductor' sector, it is practicing rigorous formulaic value investing. On the other hand, Meta (META), whose weight was recently reduced, remains attractive with a PEG of 0.85, though the reduction is interpreted as a necessary portfolio rebalancing in light of sector rotation.

Ticker Qty Buy Price Current Price PER
Nvidia 26.59 $184.21 $209.66 32.6
Micron 0.23 $996.00 $938.40 21.1
AMD 7.17 $198.62 $480.93 122.1
Broadcom 5.67 $326.03 $355.59
