Lee Jae-myung Orders Rapid Support for 9 Nationals Missing in Nepal Floods

President Lee Jae-myung presided over an emergency meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Seoul on the 27th and ordered swift support for nine missing and ten isolated South Korean nationals following the devastating floods in Nepal. He instructed the full mobilization of available personnel from relevant ministries, the local embassy, rapid response teams, and local businesses, urging them to "mobilize all available resources with the determination that there is no such thing as overreacting when protecting the lives and safety of the people."

The Nepal flooding has resulted in a large-scale disaster with an estimated 359 fatalities according to local police. Nine Korean workers from Doosan Enerbility and Korea Southern Power (KOSPO), who were working at a local hydroelectric power plant construction site, remain out of contact. Meanwhile, nine of the ten Korean nationals who were isolated in a temporary shelter have been airlifted to safety.

The government plans to urgently dispatch a joint rapid response team composed of personnel from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Fire Agency, and the National Police Agency to Nepal. The government intends to focus on securing the safety of missing and isolated nationals and preventing further damage through a swift and proactive response.
