Yong Hye-in, nominee for Minister of Gender Equality and Family, held a press conference at the National Assembly communication office on the 13th and voluntarily withdrew her nomination, just 14 days after President Lee Jae-myung named her to the post on the 30th of last month.

The decision came after controversy erupted over her concurrent seat as a proportional representation lawmaker immediately following her nomination, with withdrawal calls mounting from both ruling and opposition parties. Pressure for her resignation continued not only from the opposition but also from within the ruling party, and she stepped down before her confirmation hearing could be held.

Yong said that while she was giving up the ministerial nomination, she would retain her seat as a proportional representative lawmaker of the Basic Income Party.
