USB Audio Stops Working After Windows 11 Update

Windows 11 was updated, and the sound died. Microsoft has officially confirmed that after installing security update KB5124008, released on September 8 (local time), some audio devices connected via USB — such as speakers and headsets — stop working, but a fix patch has not yet been released.

The symptoms don't stop at no sound. There have also been reports of the volume slider not responding or getting stuck at zero, and of the sound settings screen failing to open at all.

Microsoft advised that until a fix patch is rolled out, users experiencing the issue with multi-channel features can temporarily work around it by switching to 2-channel mode. "We are working on a resolution and will update the documentation once more information is available," Microsoft said. The timeline for the fix and follow-up measures will be announced through updates to the official documentation.
