KOSPI Surges 2.36% to Close at 6,873.92

The KOSPI, South Korea's benchmark stock index, closed at 6,873.92 on the 18th, up 158.51 points (2.36%) from the previous trading session. The KOSDAQ, the small- and mid-cap stock market, also finished at 825.97, rising 3.79 points (0.46%). Gains in major semiconductor stocks such as Nvidia and Micron on Wall Street overnight, along with declines in U.S. Treasury yields and international oil prices, fueled the strength in the domestic market.

Among the largest stocks by market capitalization, semiconductor shares including Samsung Electronics (up 3.17%) and SK Hynix (up 5.62%) rose together. SK Square (up 6.05%) and Samsung Electro-Mechanics (up 5.26%) also advanced.

On the KOSPI market, foreigners net bought 254.8 billion won and institutions net bought 762.2 billion won, while individuals net sold 2.0911 trillion won. On the KOSDAQ market, institutions net bought 18.9 billion won while foreigners net sold 21.5 billion won.

On the KOSDAQ market, NFC (up 29.92%) and NCN (up 29.91%) surged near their daily price limits, while ENCell (up 28.38%), Some Age (up 23.92%) and others also gained. In contrast, Cosnine (down 50.00%) and CODACO (down 41.18%) plunged.

In the Seoul foreign exchange market, the won-dollar exchange rate rose from the 1,385-won level compared to the previous trading day.
