Kim Min-seok: Gyeonggi Province's downsizing of DMZ film festival is a breach of contract

Democratic Party leader Kim Min-seok criticized Gyeonggi Province's scaled-down operation of the DMZ International Documentary Film Festival, calling it "a breach of contract." He pointed out that there is "a problem" with reducing the event's scale on the grounds of its financial situation. Speaking at a meeting with young filmmakers held at the Gwangju Independent Cinema in Gwangju's Dong-gu district on the 19th, Youth Day, Kim described the move as "an act of moral and bad-faith destruction—a betrayal of the obligation to keep promises."

Before the meeting, Kim watched "Last Summer," an independent film depicting everyday life in rural areas. He said, "Because the younger generation grows up in cities, they rarely have the chance to see rural life," adding that "independent film is about telling the stories of the provinces."

Kim also referenced the "Lumiere Declaration" related to President Lee Jae-myung's summit diplomacy. He said, "Cho Gab-je came up with the idea of having all citizens write their autobiographies, which is meaningful," and that "we should reconsider independent investment to broaden the cultural character of the general public."

Kim recently criticized Gyeonggi Province Governor Choo Mi-ae after she criticized President Lee, and announced plans to verify the governor's spending on election consulting fees. The Democratic Party is scheduled to hold a budget policy consultation with Gyeonggi Province on the 21st.
