Kim Kyoung and Kang Seon-woo, Indicted Over Nomination Bribery Allegations, Released on Bail

Former Seoul City Council member Kim Kyoung and independent lawmaker Kang Seon-woo, implicated in a 100 million won nomination bribery case (allegations that money changed hands in the candidate selection process), were released on bail (a system allowing release during trial in exchange for a deposit) just four days before the expiration of their detention period.

The two were arrested on March 3 and indicted on March 27 of the same month. Under the current Criminal Procedure Act, which allows a maximum of six months of pretrial detention for a first trial, their detention deadline was set for the 26th. Thanks to the court's decision, they will now receive their first-trial verdicts, scheduled for the 14th of next month, while remaining out of custody.

In addition, the two face separate charges of distributing more than 130 million won in donations under the names of dozens of individuals, and are awaiting their first hearings on those charges.
