President Lee Jae Myung Discusses Warship-Building Cooperation With President Trump

President Lee Jae Myung said on the 23rd (local time) that at the Korea Investment Summit held in New York, he discussed shipbuilding cooperation, including warship construction, during his summit with U.S. President Donald Trump. At the event, President Lee emphasized that South Korea is the most trustworthy partner that the United States needs.

President Lee highlighted that shipbuilding cooperation between South Korea and the United States is taking concrete shape. He explained that U.S. strategic vessels are to be built at Hanwha's Philly Shipyard in the United States, and that South Korea is also participating in the development of next-generation power systems for the U.S. military.

President Lee also urged investors to bring capital to South Korea. Assessing that the Korean economy is showing strong resilience and growth potential despite upheavals in the global economic order, he called for bold investment in the country. He cited as growth drivers three mega projects centered on semiconductors, physical AI, and AI data centers, along with seven seed projects fostering small modular reactors, nuclear fusion, renewable energy, quantum technology, aerospace, bio industries, materials-parts-equipment, and critical minerals. He announced plans to expand semiconductor production hubs to double memory production capacity within five years, establish a future response fund, and shift the foreign exchange market to a 24-hour trading system.

President Lee noted that investors who bought Korean stocks have seen substantial gains in their holdings, saying, "It is almost certain that some time from now you will find yourself wondering why you didn't invest in South Korea back then. Please make the bold decision."
