First Ruling in Lawsuit Over Removal of Park Chung-hee Statue Set for Nov. 1

The first ruling in the lawsuit over whether the statue of former President Park Chung-hee at Dongdaegu Station should be removed is due on Nov. 1. The Daegu District Court has finalized the first-trial verdict schedule for the lawsuit filed by the Korea National Railway against the city of Daegu in January last year, seeking the removal (and handover of the structure) of the Park Chung-hee statue at Dongdaegu Station.

The case arose from a standoff between the Korea National Railway and the city of Daegu over the installation of the statue, which escalated into litigation.

On the 27th, the final day of the Chuseok holiday, a member of a civic group including the Committee to Promote the Construction of the Park Chung-hee Presidential Statue staged a one-person protest in front of the statue at Dongdaegu Station Square in Dong-gu, Daegu, calling for the withdrawal of the lawsuit seeking its removal.
