Trump Rejects Iran's 7-Day Ceasefire Proposal

U.S. President Donald Trump on the 26th (local time) rejected Iran's proposed '7-Day Plan' ceasefire, under which Iran pledged to reopen the Strait of Hormuz — a critical artery for global oil shipments — within a week if the U.S. accepted its conditions for ending the war.

Under the '7-Day Plan,' Iran committed to reopening the Strait of Hormuz and resuming negotiations over its nuclear program within seven days, in exchange for the U.S. lifting its naval blockade, unfreezing Iranian assets, and easing sanctions on Iranian crude oil exports.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who is in New York to attend the UN General Assembly, said he was "waiting for a clear position from the United States," adding that Iran would wait for the U.S. stance until the end of the month. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Iran would allow a UN nuclear inspection team into the country if the U.S. accepted the proposal.
