President Lee Jae-myung gave final approval on the 1st to the motion requesting a National Assembly confirmation hearing for Kim Ji-yong, the nominee to head the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (the agency that specializes in investigating serious crimes by public officials). With the hearing delayed for about a month after his nomination due to additional vetting, the confirmation process for the nominee is now set to begin in earnest.

Kang Yu-jung, senior presidential secretary for press affairs, announced in a notice on the 2nd that President Lee had approved the confirmation hearing request for the nominee the previous day. On the 2nd, the president forwarded the motion to the National Assembly, formally setting the confirmation process in motion.

Issues raised during the vetting of the nominee include the fact that he ordered a reinvestigation into the case in which former President Yoon Suk-yeol's mother-in-law was cleared of charges of instigating perjury, as well as his status as a multi-homeowner with two houses in Bundang-gu, Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province.
