People Power Party holds off-site rally, urges Lee Jae-myung to halt SNS activity
The People Power Party on the 4th urged President Lee Jae-myung to halt his social media activity and listen to the public, escalating its offensive across all areas including security, the economy, and justice. The offensive builds on the off-site rally held the previous day. On the 3rd, the party gathered its strength in denouncing the government at the 'National Action Rally to Judge the Lee Jae-myung Regime, Restore Livelihoods and Defend Security' on Sejong-daero in front of Sungnyemun Gate in Seoul. Some 70 sitting lawmakers attended along with the leadership, including party leader Jang Dong-hyuk and floor leader Jeong Jeom-sik, and the party estimated total attendance at 200,000.
In a Facebook post that day, party leader Jang Dong-hyuk wrote, "President Lee Jae-myung begged North Korea for peace even on Armed Forces Day," adding, "In front of our soldiers whose comrade was wounded in the leg, he called it an 'unintentional accident.'" Jang claimed, "In response to the president's subservient reaction, North Korea mocked it as a 'self-staged clown show' and answered with a missile." He went on: "The president still has not said a single word. Does he intend to call the missile provocation an 'unintentional launch'?"
Floor leader Jeong Jeom-sik said of the rally the previous day, "We could feel public fury rising against the Lee Jae-myung regime, which is destroying the people's economy, public safety, and security." Citing the president's recent posts on X promoting his government's achievements, in which he used the word meaning 'composed and dignified,' Jeong said, "I advise him to stop using social media for the time being," urging, "He should step into the lives of the people, listen to their voices, and discuss sound livelihood and economic policies together with them."
Senior spokesperson Choi Bo-yoon said in a statement, "National security being held hostage by Kim Jong-un, people's lives being threatened, the Prosecutors' Office closing its doors for the first time in 78 years and even supplementary investigation powers being stripped away, creating a public safety vacuum — the cause of all of this lies solely with the president, who has abandoned his role as the official in charge of state affairs." On the recent string of bank hacking incidents, he said, "Stop letting it be said that North Korea laughs, banks get breached, and the government is 'reviewing the situation.' Protecting the people's money and information is the most basic form of security." Spokesperson Cho Yong-sul also said, "Instead of focusing on politics by social media posts, the president should first look after the public's financial safety."
Rep. Na Kyung-won wrote on Facebook, "The nationwide farmland survey being pushed by the Lee Jae-myung government is the prelude to a 'new tenancy system' in which the state reigns as a massive landlord, and an act of state violence that robs farmers of their private property."
The offensive against the abolition of the prosecution continued as well. Senior spokesperson Choi Bo-yoon stressed, "Citizens no longer have anywhere to turn with their grievances, but those responsible are clear. It was the Lee Jae-myung government and the Democratic Party that designed and pushed through this reform, and they ignored warnings that it was hasty." Deputy floor leader Choi Eun-seok, regarding the Committee for the Future of Prosecution investigating allegations of prosecutorial abuse of investigative powers, demanded, "An organization mired in allegations of illegal and unlawful conduct should be disbanded immediately." He added, "The president himself, whose criminal trial is currently suspended, should have it resumed immediately and face the judgment of the judiciary in accordance with the law and principles."
