President Lee Jae-myung Warns Against Fake News on First Day of Parliamentary Audit
President Lee Jae-myung, marking the first day of the National Assembly's government inspection on the 6th, urged at a Cabinet meeting at the presidential office that people refrain from groundless fake news and wasteful political attacks, and instead meet the public's expectations with productive criticism and responsible alternatives. While acknowledging that "the government can find the parliamentary audit quite burdensome," he defined the audit as "a meaningful occasion on which the National Assembly, the hall of the people's will, examines the overall running of the nation on behalf of the sovereign people."
He went on to stress that the government should humbly accept the National Assembly's reasonable challenges in a spirit of gratitude for the scrutiny, and follow through with substantive institutional improvements and administrative changes.
The second parliamentary audit of the Lee Jae-myung administration will run from the 6th to the 30th. "The government has announced that it reviewed issues repeatedly raised during audits over the past five years and completed 30 institutional and policy improvements," the president noted. He then called for issues raised in this year's audit to be examined closely, asking that constructive points that help address the government's shortcomings be actively embraced.
