An arrest warrant has been sought for Mr. A, a man in his 50s who wielded a weapon at a large shopping complex in Incheon, injuring eight people. Police requested the warrant on charges of attempted murder and carrying a dangerous weapon in a public place, and prosecutors consulted with police on follow-up investigations. A substantive warrant review is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon.

Prosecutors have asked police to verify the 6 million won in cash that Mr. A was carrying at the time of the crime. Mr. A, a recipient of basic living subsidies, is reported to have stated that he obtained the cash by selling precious metals he owned. The authorities' move to verify the cash stems from Mr. A's criminal record, which includes two prior convictions for attempted murder and a total of 10 convictions punishable by fines or greater.

Police are preparing a search and seizure of Mr. A's residence to secure additional evidence. To prevent similar crimes, police conducted special security operations targeting crowded facilities and reviewed their on-site response protocols so that the nearest patrol car is dispatched first when reports of weapons possession come in. They also plan to step up monitoring and investigations of online posts threatening stabbing rampages.
