FBI Points to North Korea as Mastermind Behind Binance Hack
The FBI has officially identified the North Korean hacking group 'TraderTraitor' as being behind the Binance hack. This is the first time North Korea has been named as the perpetrator of an incident in which virtual assets were stolen from Binance, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange.
According to the FBI, the stolen cryptocurrency is being laundered by converting it into other virtual assets through decentralized finance (DeFi) and instant exchange services. The FBI published a list of wallet addresses in Ethereum, Bitcoin (BTC), and other currencies believed to be used by the group, urging the blocking of transactions.
Cryptocurrency expert Ari Redbord explained, "North Korea is trying to convert these funds from cryptocurrency into cash as quickly as possible," adding, "That's the only way they can use them for weapons proliferation or purchases of goods."
Earlier, when asked whether he believed the hack was the work of a North Korean hacker group, U.S. President Donald Trump avoided giving a direct answer, saying he did not yet know.
