Jang Dong-hyuk appears without nameplate at forum attended by Oh Se-hoon
People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyuk made an unannounced appearance without a nameplate and shook hands with Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon at the mayor's first visit to the National Assembly since receiving an acquittal in the appeals trial of the 'Myeong Tae-gyun opinion poll fronting case' (allegations that a polling firm covered polling costs on his behalf). The People Power Party's Seoul chapter and the Seoul Metropolitan Government held a policy forum titled 'Finding a Path of Coexistence: World Heritage Preservation and the Future of Cities' at a National Assembly members' office building on the 3rd. The city has been in conflict with the National Heritage Service, which is demanding a World Heritage assessment over the development of Zone 4 of the Sewoon Redevelopment District in front of Jongmyo Shrine in Jongno District.
After the forum, Mayor Oh told reporters regarding unity within the conservative camp: "There is no one I cannot meet, and no one with whom we cannot join forces." He added, "Including Rep. Han Dong-hoon, I will visit anyone in our party, listen to their views, and sincerely seek dialogue-based harmony and unity on how to lay the groundwork to unite our strength and win both the general and presidential elections."
At the same venue, Mayor Oh addressed President Lee Jae-myung's National Assembly policy speech the previous day, saying, "If the excess tax revenue is spent in the direction the President has indicated, it is plainly obvious that a national disaster will follow." He continued, "For the sake of future generations, unless we build it up as a national wealth fund so that all Koreans can benefit five, ten, thirty, and fifty years from now, we will be criticized and regret it for years to come."
With the second anniversary of the December 3 martial law incident approaching next month, Mayor Oh also said, "If the people are disappointed with the People Power Party, we must clearly state our position on that, and whether it takes two times or five, there is nothing we cannot do," calling on the party to issue a public apology.
