KOSPI Buy-Sidecar Activated

As the KOSPI 200 futures index surged over 5% compared to the previous trading day, the Korea Exchange activated a buy-sidecar on the stock market at 2:34 PM on the 18th. This activation suspended the effect of program buy orders for 5 minutes. At the time of activation, the KOSPI 200 futures index recorded a 5.08% rise to 887.25 points compared to the previous day's closing price. This is the fourth time this year a buy-sidecar has been activated in the KOSPI market.

As of 2:51 PM that day, the KOSPI index was trading at 5,911.79, up 271.97 points (4.81%) from the previous day. Top market capitalization stocks also showed broad strength.

Samsung Electronics traded at 207,750 won, up 7.14%, and SK Hynix traded at 1,049,000 won, up 8.14%. Hyundai Motor rose 4.21%, LG Energy Solution gained 0.66%, while Samsung Biologics and SK Square continued trading higher, up 2.90% and 6.98% respectively.
