Unidentified Drones Repeatedly Appear Over Washington Military Base
An investigation into the security and safety of the Washington D.C. area is underway following repeated sightings of unidentified drones over a key military base. Unidentified drones were spotted multiple times near Fort Lesley J. McNair, a base where high-ranking U.S. administration officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of War Pete Hegses, reside. Fort McNair is home to the National Defense University and residences for senior military leadership, and an investigation into the circumstances of these incidents is ongoing.
The U.S. Army and the Joint Task Force-National Capital Region are aware of the drone sightings and are investigating in cooperation with law enforcement and relevant agencies. Military authorities are adjusting force protection measures based on the situation, while relevant agencies are investigating the circumstances of the drone appearances and assessing potential security threats. Heather Chaiirez, spokesperson for the U.S. Army's Military District of Washington, stated that there is currently no confirmed credible threat to Fort McNair.
Amid escalating tensions with Iran, six U.S. service members were killed in Kuwait during Iran's drone attack in the initial stages of 'Operation Epic Fury'. Consequently, several U.S. military bases, including McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst Joint Base in New Jersey and MacDill Air Force Base in Florida, have recently elevated their force protection levels.
