Missing Person Found Dead During Search
On the afternoon of the 20th, 10 of the 14 people who went missing in a large fire at an auto parts factory in Daedeok-gu, Daejeon, were found dead. Firefighters confirmed the deaths while conducting a search for survivors. It was reported that at the time of the accident, smoke erupted with an explosion, and flames spread through the factory.
Fire and rescue teams recovered the bodies of the missing during a detailed search of the factory interior, and identification procedures are currently underway.
President Lee Jae-myung has ordered all available resources to be mobilized for fire response. In response, relevant ministries are concentrating administrative efforts on accident recovery. The Daejeon city government has formed an accident response headquarters to tally the damage.
Upon completing the search operations, fire authorities will launch a joint, detailed on-site investigation with the police and the National Forensic Service. The investigation will cover aspects such as the management of flammable materials inside the factory and the operational status of fire-fighting facilities. Fire authorities plan to announce the cause of the accident as soon as the investigation results are available, while continuing their search for any remaining missing persons.
