PPP Excludes Joo Ho-young, Lee Jin-sook from Daegu Mayoral Nomination
The People Power Party's Nomination Management Committee (NPC) decided on the 17th to exclude lawmaker Joo Ho-young and former Broadcasting and Communications Commission Chairwoman Lee Jin-sook, considered frontrunners for the Daegu mayoral nomination. This decision narrows the Daegu mayoral race, previously subject to 'pre-selection' rumors, down to six candidates: Yoo Young-ha, Yoon Jae-ok, Lee Jae-man, Choo Kyung-ho, Choi Eun-seok, and Hong Seok-jun.
Lee Jung-hyun, head of the NPC, stated the reason for their exclusion was that 'it is better for them to be utilized more broadly in the National Assembly and national politics overall than to remain in a single position.' Lawmaker Joo Ho-young, who was cut off, announced that he cannot accept the NPC's decision and will seek judicial review.
Former Chairwoman Lee Jin-sook also expressed her position, stating that she finds the decision incomprehensible.
